Want bigger, stronger muscles?  You need protein and carbs after your workout!
A common misconception around the gym is that you only need protein after a gym workout...yes protein is the building block of muscle, however after your strength training session your body is craving carbohydrates to replenish your muscle glycogen stores, the main source of energy, that has been lost during your workout.  If you don’t replenish those stores, your body will call on protein or start breaking down your muscles to use as glycogen; which really defeats the purpose of you training in the first place.  Best of all, the carbs you consume straight after your training session won’t make you fat, they’ll be utilised by your body in helping your post workout protein shake be absorbed and used effectively to repair your muscles.
You should have between 20-30g of protein and about 1g of carbs per kilogram of bodyweight after your workout.
